Trista – Painting Tutorial
There was once a girl named Trista. I met her with her master at a local event in Michigan. She had amazing hair. She didn’t speak much, but I had the opportunity to draw her. See the original drawings here.
Later, I created a large painting of the drawing. Here are the basic steps.
For this project I used the following supplies:
- Free newspaper
- Blue masking tape
- White acrylic paint
- Purple acrylic paint
- Red acrylic paint
- Light grey acrylic paint
- Dark grey acrylic paint
- Light blue acrylic paint
- Cheap craft paint brush with medium/large tip
- Disposable cup with water to rinse brush between colors
- Papertowel (or napkin or cloth rag) to dry brush on after rinsing
- Black acrylic paint marker or permanent marker
Step 1: Tape newspaper to the wall (not shown)
Step 2: Paint white shape of drawing
Step 3: Paint rough outlines of the drawing with purple paint
Step 4: Paint red hair and any other red details
Step 5: Paint shirt light blue (not shown)
Step 6: Add light grey paint for shading (not shown)
Step 7: Add dark grey paint to add depth
Step 8: Draw simple lines to define the shape and maybe call out some details with black acrylic marker
Step 9: Live with it on your wall for a few months
Step 10: Remove from wall to put in storage, give away, or do like I did and wad it up into a trash ball and set on fire in a safe place (not shown). Safety first. Don’t burn anything down :p
I’ve never seen Trista since that day. She doesn’t even know about the painting or the aftermath. :p
